Web of Knowledge Roadshow Presentations
Web of Knowledge Update
Renny Guida – Director, Product Development
Advances in technology and challenging economic conditions are facilitating
rapid changes in scholarly communications. Recent Web of Knowledge
developments are focused on helping students, faculty, researcher, and
university management leverage this new environment. The presentation will
cover current and future Web of Knowledge developments that will enhance
discovery, address identity and attribution issues, aid collaboration
efforts, and better measure research output.
New Tools for Integrating Your Institution’s Research
Publications with the Web of Science
Renny Guida – Director, Product Development
This short presentation will focus on the new tools enabling our customers
to display and update relevant Web of Science data in their internal
research management systems as well as demonstrate models of how Web of
Science data can be integrated into the research management workflows at
institutions.
ResearcherID and University
Publication Data: A Case Study at The University of
Queensland
Dr Amberyn Thomas (Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne
only)
Historically, the collection and management of UQ’s publication data has
involved manual data entry, with citation metrics retrieved from Thomson
Reuters’ Web of Knowledge on an ‘as-needed’ basis; a time-consuming and
costly workflow. A partnership between Thomson Reuters and the UQ Library
has demonstrated that the integration of Thomson Reuters’ ResearcherID with
UQ’s publication data provides significant benefits, including increased
efficiency and accuracy. Furthermore, the ability to integrate citation
metrics with UQ publication data provides a rich source of information with
many potential applications. Potential applications include the measurement
of research performance and assisting in the preparation of grant
applications.
Making the Most of Citation Data:
The Integration of Thomson Reuters' Web of Science and UWA's Research
Management System, Socrates
Ms Natalie Mast (Canberra only)
In late 2006 the University of Western Australia launched Socrates, an
online application designed to draw data from key research information
systems, in order for the University to prepare portfolios for the Research
Quality Framework (RQF). Web of Science data has helped Socrates to be an
effective tool for the measurement of UWA’s research performance at the
University, organisational unit and individual level.
Evaluating Individuals and
Institutions Using Advanced Bibliometrics
Dr Berenika Webster, Strategic Business
Manager
The focus of this talk is to present current and emerging approaches to evaluating research outputs of individual researchers and organisations. Indicators of volume and impact will be discussed (including h-index and its derivatives). It will also address the importance of adhering to a set of bibliometrics principles, such as normalisation and data selection, when developing and applying indicators.
