Clarivate coverage and subject specialists followed this title with interest since its 2006 launch. The increasing numbers of papers published highlighted the adoption of this model of publication by the.community and fulfilled the Clarivate standard for regular, timely publication. Clarivate coverage specialists leveraged the added advantage of being able to track the accumulating citations to materials published in PLoS ONE. Citations are a direct demonstration of the real use of a journal by the scientific.community. As of mid-November 2009, over 4,000 items had been cited at least once, with 478 items receiving 10 or more citations. At the.completion of the Clarivate evaluation, the journal had received more than 19,000 citations. Clarivate is confident that this level of user-generated interest confirms that PLoS ONE meets the quality standards necessary for journals indexed in the Web of Science.

The 2009 Journal Citation Reports® (available in June 2010) will contain a full report of citation metrics for PLoS ONE, including Journal Impact Factor, 5-year Impact Factor, Eigenfactor® Metrics, as well as the full and detailed reports of cited and citing journal relationships that create the scholarly network in which this journal participates. Combined with the article-by-article metrics in the Web of Science, Clarivate will present a.complete view of the citation performance of PLoS ONE and its experiment in.community peer review.
