Welcome to your preview of the new
Web of Knowledge: Your Citation Source

Before you log on to the new environment please keep in mind that it is in development and only a few databases are currently available:
Web of ScienceSM, Chinese Science Citation DatabaseSM and the all new BIOSIS Citation IndexSM.

We appreciate your interest in this Web of Knowledge preview and we want you to benefit from the launch of this early version, so you should know that:

  • we are wrapping up final data correction loads and are bringing the files up to date. We are aiming to complete the updates in the next few weeks. Until then, you may occasionally find differences in the number of records available from similar searches conducted on your primary Web of Knowledge platform.
  • regardless of your subscription, you now have the ability to see times cited counts for items in each of these three databases. See more information in the “analyzing” section below.
  • Web of Science times cited counts may be different than those in the previous version of Web of Science. This is occurring because we are continuing to improve the product in response to customer requests. Behind the scenes there is work being done to:
    1. load missing data in order to provide for a complete picture of the scholarly research available in Web of Knowledge
    2. improve the algorithm used for unifying citation counts across all of our data

We apologize for any inconvenience these changes may cause you. Please return to this page in the future for updates on our progress.

The new version offers advances to help you search, discover, manage, and analyze scholarly literature.

Searching

  • All of your query terms will be searched -- no more missing stopwords or phrases such as “Vitamin A”.
  • New NEAR operator for proximity searches.

*Please note that if your usage session is inactive for 15 minutes or more, you will lose access, and will need to log in again.

Discovering

  • Your search queries will return all hits, not just the first 100,000.
  • View abstracts on the summary list, without having to go to the full record.

Managing

  • Marking Records: Now easier to add records to the marked list, and store significantly more records.
  • Create Citation Reports and Analyze records right from your Marked List.

Analyzing

  • Citations across Databases - You’ll see the all new “Citation Summary Breakdown” on any Citing Articles page. This table provides an overview and breakdown of Web of Knowledge Times Cited counts by product and edition. See example below.

  • Analyze and Refine will now work across your entire results set, not just the first 100,000.
  • Refine by Databases within an All Databases search.

Citation Report across Databases

In addition to citation reports by product (Web of Science, BIOSIS Citation Index, and Chinese Science Citation Database), you can also generate citation reports across products.

Still to come …

  • Analyzing All Databases results
  • Exporting abstracts from All Databases
  • BibTeX output options
  • Search Aids
  • Alerting and RSS feeds
  • My Journal List
  • Author Finder

New features being developed include …

  • More powerful searching features, for example, “Did you mean?” spell checking option.
  • Integration with ResearcherID, for example, searching by ResearcherID number, display of ResearcherID numbers within records.
  • Enhanced Cited References, including links to full text and article abstracts.
  • New “Since” option allows you to select a specific timeframe to search.
